This will be the first in our series of reviews of what’s cookin’ and eatin’ here in Baguio City. First on our list would be Point & Grill restaurant located at the Lower Ground Floor of SM City Baguio and a branch at Upper Session Road fronting Porta Vaga Mall. When you are craving for some home cooked good and grilled foods that are easy on the budget then Point & Grill will be the top choice. Me and my wife are food lovers and whenever we heard of restaurants that offered good and yummy foods which is within our budget we never hesitate to try it out. We don’t just eat though, we also criticize whenever we observe that there is something missing or wrong with what we eat or the place. We often times go to SM City Baguio for so many reasons. Some are important and some are not. But whenever we are at SM, we always make it a point to eat at one of their restos and our fave (my fave actually) is Point & Grill. For some reason, which I still am not sure of until now, is that I’m always tempted to go back to this resto. Maybe it’s because of their foods, the ambiance, or the aroma of grilled meat. I don’t know but what I’m sure is I just love their food especially the Sinampalukang Manok (Chicken in Tamarind soup). UPSIDE Point & Grill offers authentic Filipino dishes from meat to seafood to chicken. Name it and they have it. Their main concept which I think is what makes them attractive to eat at is to point the dish you want to order at their menu and they will grill or cook it for you on the spot. They have different sets of combo meals which cost Php99.00 and platter meals at Php159.00. My personal fave is the Sinampalukang Manok which has the right sourness and the miso that comes with it. Another fave of mine is the Bulalo-a local soup dish with beef meat cooked until tender and served steaming hot. Perfect dish for a cool place like Baguio City. Pork Kilayin or Kilayen is my latest discovery. I recently ordered this and fell in love with the dish instantly. This is a Kapampangan dish made from pork meat and pork liver simmered until tender. My wife’s always has the same dish whenever we eat at this resto, the usual Pork Barbecue Meal. Aside from that, we also usually had Seafood Sinigang which she loved so much even though she’s allergic with shrimps. Oh well, like we Filipinos used to say “kung anong bawal yun ang gustong gusto nating gawin at kainin.” Bottomline is, food is great and the food is great. DOWNSIDE The place can be quite crowded at times especially during lunch and dinner. Tables and chairs are so close to each other that you don’t have any more room or space to stand and pass. At their SM Branch, you have to wait for half an hour before you can get a table. So your patience will really be put to test when eating at this place. Aside from waiting time that you have to wait to be seated, there’s also the problem of calling the attention of waiters/waitresses for them to take your orders. If you’re lucky and you immediately placed your orders, you have to endure again the time for your orders to be cooked and served. Serving time, if during their peak hours, usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes. So better have something to eat while waiting for your orders especially if you are so hungry already. Meals on the menu can also be unavailable if there are lots of customers like what we experienced before that every dish that we ordered on their menu is not available.
