As we have promised during our previous blog that we will be featuring a Throwback series in some of the old and long gone places and establishments here in Baguio City, so here is the 2nd part of the series. During the late 80's to the mid 90's when it comes to your source of movie videos and music records, the name that you can definitely trust is Plakabar music and video shop. I am not really sure if they're still around but the last time I saw them is at the 2nd floor of Porta Vaga Mall at Session Road. Their old and first ever shop was located at Bonifacio Street in front of Metrobank near the main gate of Saint Louis University. Truly, this shop brought back good old elementary and high school memories. During those days DVDs and Bluray CDs are not yet around so old and new movies are available in betamax and vhs formats and Plakabar has a video rental corner in their shop where you can rent movies in betamax and vhs tapes for overnight or 2 days duration at a still very affordable rental fee which if I am correct is P10 or P15 per tape. Me and my high school buddies were regular customers at their video rental shop during the weekends and holidays. Most of the videos we rented from them are action movies and some x-rated since we were at the peak of our puberty and curiosity stage (LOL). Good thing that the guy whose in charge of the video rental shop became our friend and so we were able to rent it out even though we were not at the legal age yet during that time. Aside from movie rentals, they also sell music albums in cassette tapes. Cassette tapes were the "IN" thing during those days and when you own cassette tapes of the latest albums that time, it's as if you were the most popular guy among your peers. They also offer recording services like if you want to have a minus one version of a particular song, all you have to do is give the title of the song to them and they will convert it into a minus one version and will make a copy of it in a cassette tape at an affordable price. But the most fondest memory I ever had with Plakabar is my collections of WWF wrestler posters and stickers which I put in my folders. Any small amount that I saved from my daily baon during my high school years was spent directly on posters. WWF was still a very popular sports during that time and so I was determined to have a collection of posters of all the famous WWF wrestlers. I remember that I had a poster of Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Legion of Doom and many others which I so carefully posted on the walls of my room. Unfortunately, all my poster collections and cassette tapes were lost due to transfer of residence. I wonder how much would it cost now if they were still around and well preserved.

Hello Ma'am Mary Ann. It was nice that we got a fantastic comment from the owner of the shop itself. It was really vague if the video rental store which is located inside the shop was owned by you or some other tenant but what I can remember is that we frequent the video rental store whenever we had a free time or we didn't had any classes. Missed those good old Plakabar store located along Bonifacio Street though.
