Part of my growing up and student years in Baguio City is, without a doubt, a visit to different bookstores and school supplies stores. These establishments were the big thing in Baguio before the dawn of giant bookstores in the city. They have etched so many good memories not only with me but in behalf of all who were students in 90's and early 2000's. Join me as we travel down the memory lane and visit these stores once again as we continue with our Throwback Thursday series. JET BOOKSTORE This was my fave hangout place in my high school and college years. To some students- fast food joints, cinemas, Session Road or at their barkada's houses was their place of solace but for me, JET Bookstore it is. It's like everything that I needed at that time was all housed in one single and magical place (except for food, of course). The shop was formerly located at the Puso ng Baguio building Upper Session Road(just not sure the exact location though now). I love their former location and interiors. It was situated beside the sidewalk and the place was quite big and somewhat spacious. If my memory serves me right, the store has 3 floors. On the first floor was the school supplies section, second one was some sort of like a gift shop and like a sports equipment area, and the last floor was the book haven where you can find books from all sorts of subjects. This is where I also buy my Marvel comics and Pugad Baboy too. Oh and not to forget the lovable and cute little toys-TROLLS. This is where we can find all sizes and shapes and designs of trolls which were popular during those days. I love the last floor though, as I am a bookworm and although I still can't afford to buy my books then, the feeling was just pretty amazing just by looking at those books that comes in different sizes and volumes. JET Bookstore has lived to this day and is currently located at the second floor of Porta Vaga Mall. Not as big and spacious as it was before but whenever we pass by it and see the name, it never failed to bring back good, old student memories in Baguio. CID EDUCATIONAL SUPPLY Another popular bookstore in Baguio. It still stands in its same location to this day which is at middle Session Road. This shop was always fully packed during my student days and just getting inside it was like a miracle. Students from UB, SLU, UC and other schools crammed into this iconic Baguio store to buy all their school needs- from pen to books and so on. It has 2 floors. The first is the school supplies department and the second one is the book section. I remember the feeling of a homey type of place that houses all things that every students need. The wooden stairs from the first floor going to the next one. And who can forget the wooden floor on the book section. This are just some pretty amazing memories of CID that will be forever remembered by students of old Baguio and by me. As I mentioned, CID Bookstore is still very much operational to this day. Same location but it's already divided into 3 stores but same name. Don't know their reason for doing that but it's still good to know that they're still in full service. ROMMEL SCHOOL SUPPLIES STORE A sure hit for Saint Louis University students as the store is strategically located just in front of the school. This is the go to school supplies store for students like me when we ran out our paper, pens, or the iconic floppy disk. It was also a favorite hangout place for students waiting for their next class or for boys who wants to get a glimpse of their campus crush. The name Rommel School Supplies I think is synonymous with SLU as all of it's students knows about who or what it is. I don't have an updated information about Rommel School Supplies but last time I checked it was no longer in its location. It's already a donuts shop where the store used to be and I have no info where it transferred. PANGHOI STORE This is where I used to buy my notebooks when I was in Elementary. Located at Magsaysay Avenue beside Tiong San Department Store Magsaysay and near the Baguio Plaza. The place is crowded specially a week before the start of the school year as most parents who are on a budget troop to this store for affordable school supplies for their kids. Well, that's all I can remember for now. Apologies to those we haven't mentioned in this article due to ageing or by sheer forgetfulness, but if you're supposed to be on the list please leave a comment so that we can include you or your store. Have a wonderful Throwback Thursday Baguio.
