I'm humming a Beach Boys song while we were on the way to Manila Ocean Park. All I'm thinking was beach, sea, sand and tide. The feeling of super duper excitement was growing more and more as we were getting nearer. Alas, we arrived and pfffttt the excitement gone in an instant. For crying out loud, we're going to an Ocean Park and not a beach resort. When will I ever learn to lower my expectations.Manila Ocean Park was part of our itinerary during Tsik and Gail's vacation. I'd say that the park was pretty decent for an ocean park and more of an educational center. The ticket was priced at 500 pesos per person and we were treated to 5 different shows: Oceanarium, Jellies Exhibit, Sea Lion Show, Sharks and Rays Dry Encounter, and the Musical Fountain Show. Here are my reviews for each shows. Oceanarium-It consists of different fish tanks of various sizes and with different fish species. There are small and large fishes and a fish who looked a lot like my wife (just kidding mahal!). What I like about this section is that, fishes that I only saw on TV are actually real. There's this one fish which is soo huge that I think my entire family would fit into its belly and I'm dead serious about it. We also pass into this tunnel of a big aquarium where you can see fishes and rays swimming above your head. Jellies Exhibit-When we entered this part of the park all I thought was we entered a movie house cause the entire room was so dark and there's only a bit of a light. I was expecting for an usherette or usher to guide us through the room as it was so dark but you're on your own. The only light that we could see are one's lighting up each tank where all sorts of jelly fish are. I didn't recognize the jelly fish at first as I mistook them for used condoms floating on water. But, as you see them much closer you will be amazed at how wonderful this creatures are. Sharks and Rays Dry Encounter-This is an open, shallow fish tank where sharks and rays freely swim. You can actually touch them at your own risk. I touched one ray and it felt like I am touching sponge bob. Sea Lion Show-Well this was an interesting show. Sea lions performed in front of hundreds of people showcasing their talents from jumping out of the water to shaking the hands of their human trainers. This really made my day and I am now thinking that they are more talented than me (maybe highly paid too!). Musical Fountain Show-This was the last part of a series of shows and we had to wait til it got dark for us, obviously, to see the light shows. The lights were fantastic the way they are synchronized with the fountain and the music. Have to bring with me an umbrella though the next time I'm gonna watch this. In the end, it was really not a disappointment as we enjoyed the entire set of shows. Hope that they put a live whale next time.
