Travelling is something that we Filipinos cannot do without aside from our love of foods. It seems that we are born with mole on our soles and every now and then we want to discover and explore new destinations or just to unwind and relax far away from our busy and noisy places we lived in. Money for most of us is the biggest issue that holds back every one of us from travelling. This sure is a problem since wherever we go, money will always be involved in every transactions that we entered into. A lot of our guests, visitors and readers on this site usually asked us the never ending question on how they can travel to Baguio and have their vacation here without spending so much. Since this question comes up so often, we at BFT like to constantly remind you our dear guests and readers of this fact: You don't need to be rich, wealthy, affluent, well-to-do to travel not only here in Baguio but in other destinations as well. DO I NEED TO HAVE LOTS OF MONEY TO TRAVEL? Definitely not! This is the usual misconception that we have on travelling. How many travel plans have not pushed through just for the reason of not having enough budget? When I and my wife travel or go on a vacation, we always do it on a budget. We don't have much of it yet we always make it a point to make our vacation memorable. As your generous source of everything about Baguio City, we came up with simple Baguio vacation hacks that will make your stay here something worth remembering and budget friendly. STAY AT A TRANSIENT HOUSE They might not be as posh and classy like hotels are but they are much more better in terms of amenities and their price. A price of a single/double room in a hotel can already be a whole house with 2 rooms with complete amenities. Our point here is, why would you spend so much for a hotel room when in fact you only needed a decent place to rest, sleep and take a bath since most of the time you will be out discovering and enjoying the things that the place has to offer. If you are the practical type of vacationer who put more values on memories rather than luxury , then we might be able to help you in finding a good transient house. See our list of available transient house here. TRAVEL DURING OFF SEASON MONTHS Peak season months are really not the worst time to have your vacation here in Baguio, it just so happened that during peak season most of the rates and prices here in the city soars. Off season here in Baguio are from the months of June until November so you can expect that room and tour rates are cheaper compared during peak season. Although the weather is not that perfect compared during peak season, you can still enjoy your vacation even when it is drizzling. Added bonus for travelling on an off season would be a cold and fog covered Baguio City. RIDE A JEEPNEY OR BETTER YET, WALK If you don't own a private car and if it's not within your budget to rent a van to tour you around the city, then a commute by jeepney is not a bad idea. We have a previous post here on how to go to the different tourist spots in the city by jeep which details the terminals of jeeps plying the roads of each tourist spots, fare rates and travel time. You might want to check it here for more information. Walking is also great way to tour the city. Just be ready though with your maps, gps, waze, etc. If you're lost you can always ask the local people who are friendly and accommodating. AVOID HIGH PRICED RESTOS It's not that we are discouraging you to try it but as the title of this post implies that you are travelling on a budget. There are lots of restaurants here in Baguio that also serve better food for less money. Top of our list would be Good Taste Restaurant located along Carino Street which serves tasty food and meals at large quantities at an affordable price. If you also want to try Igorot delicacies then Farmer's Daughter is the best choice. The local foods here are great and the price is reasonable. Fast food restaurants like McDonald's and Jollibee also exists in every corner of the city. SHOP YOUR PASALUBONGS AT THE CITY PUBLIC MARKET There's a bigger chance that you can buy cheap pasalubongs if you do it at the City's Public Market as you can haggle the prices with the vendor. Compared with other pasalubong centers in the city, products sold at the market are more cheaper. Baguio vegetables can be bought at a much lower price if you buy it the Hangar section of the market. Whenever we guide our guests around the city, we always recommend the Public Market for their pasalubong. Just be patient though in finding a parking space especially during weekends and holidays. DID WE MISSED ANYTHING? That's all we can share for now folks. It's really not necessary to save a lot of money in order to travel here in Baguio. You just have to be practical and wise. Hope that this post will get you moving with your Baguio vacation plans. If we missed anything, then this post is open for your invaluable insights.
