It's been 2 years and I know that this blog entry has been long overdue but as the saying goes "it's better to be late than never." It was April 5, 2016 when I got an email from Ms. Lia Pangilinan, a researcher from the Center for Kapampangan Studies at the Holy Angel University-Angeles City, Pampanga, asking me if it would be okay for me to contribute in her book project my personal experience about the devastating July 16, 1990 earthquake here in Baguio City. Without hesitation, I said yes and told her that it would be such an honor for my story to be published and be a part of her book. To cut the story short, my blog about the July 16, 1990 Baguio City earthquake was one of the many stories featured in Ms. Lia Pangilinan's book "Our Common Fault: Stories of Loss and Survival in the July 16, 1990 Earthquake." The book is a collection of personal stories, not only me but other survivors as well of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that shook Central and Northern Luzon in 1990. It was indeed a great pride for my story to be included in Ms. Lia's book and an opportunity at the same time to let many people know specially those who were not yet born during that time, how we managed to survive and came out stronger than ever because of that disaster. Let this book be a reminder to cherish every moment we have with our loved ones for we may not know when they or us will be taken away from them and let many people today know the value of preparedness during disasters like earthquakes. I and my family was also given the privilege to be invited to the launching of the book on June 14, 2016 at the Holy Angel University's Center for Kapampangan Studies. Not only were we invited but I was also surprised when Ms. Lia said that I would be one of the guest speakers to share my story during the launch. Thank you Ms. Lia for these honor and opportunity. It has been 28 years but the memories of that day still lives. We haven't had the privilege of earthquake drills during those times and all we had was luck that's why we lived and survived. Learn from our mistakes but never lose hope no matter how difficult and how hopeless the situation might be.
