Summer is almost over and soon rainy days will be makin’ us, I included, frown again. Farmers who longs for that needed water to irrigate their parched lands can now heave a sigh of relief as the wet season is just around the corner. But before we say goodbye to the warm and dry climate of summer, let me just make a last ditch effort to enjoy whatever days left of it. And, like what Olaf said from his song “when life’s get rough, I like to hold on to my dream. Of relaxing in the summer sun, just lettin’ off steam,” what better way for me and for my family to let off some steam is by taking a plunge in one of the scores of hot spring resorts here in the province of Benguet. Rather than travel to nearby La Union province or Pangasinan for their beaches, this is our most convenient way, we people from the Cordillera and Baguio City can get our feet wet and soak in water during summer. Indeed, we are thankful that the good Lord provided us with these hot springs. And out of these hot springs, spawned the numerous resorts that caters to people from nearby and faraway places. So let me guide you to the hot springs in Benguet province. THE RESORTS RIVERVIEW WATERPARK The Riverview Waterpark is a family owned, family built, and family managed water resort located in Asin, Nangalisan, Tuba Benguet, about 15 kms away from Baguio City. It is nestled between the Asin River and the Cordillera mountains, hence the name. It is one of the parks’ biggest attractions, its’ proximity to nature. Surrounded by lush greenery, it is literally imbedded into the mountainside. It’s a simple place, for simple pleasures. Wholesome fun and quality family time is what we hope guests will take away from the riverview experience, and we always strive to make the park a great place to unwind and relax, an escape from the rat race . It has 4 big pools, 3 kiddie pools, 3 hot water pools, and 6 waterslides. It also has room accommodations, a restaurant, and function rooms. A dormitory is also available which can accommodate up to 120 person. Originally, the place was supposed to be a private resort and vacation house for the Pooten Family but due to insistent demands that the place be used for private functions and gatherings, they finally gave in and open it to the public. The resort is located at Km. 16 Asid Road, Nangalisan, Tuba, Benguet. It offers sulfuric swimming pools, conference room, traditional nipa huts, air conditioned rooms, hot and cold shower, open kitchen, spacious hot tubs, and wide parking space among others. If you have your own private transportation, from Baguio City take Naguilian Road and before you reach Cooyeesan gym there is a road on the left side and there are signs which says to Asin Hot Spring Resorts or Ben Cab Museum and just follow that road. Travelling time is approximately 20 to 30 minutes. If you’re opting for public transportation in going to Asin hot springs, there are jeepneys plying the route of Baguio-Nangalisan, Asin. Road condition at Baguio-Asin route is okay. Roads are fully concreted including those at the tunnels. On the other hand, one can get to Itogon hot spring via Loakan-Balatoc Road or Tuding-Ucab Road. There are jeepneys plying the said routes and their terminals are located at Lakandula Street beside Baguio Center Mall. Fare and schedule of trips are the same with the Baguio-Asin route. Travelling time is 45 minutes to 1 hour. Road condition going to Itogon is okay with all the major roads concreted and passable. Asin, Nangalisan, Tuba, Benguet resorts HOW MUCH:
Hot spring resorts at Asin, Nangalisan are more expensive compared with their counterpart at Itogon. At Asin the entrance fee is Php 100.00 for adults and kids 4 feet and above, far more than what they charge at Itogon which is only around Php 30.00 to Php 50.00. Picinic shed rent at Asin costs around Php 200 to Php 300.00 while at picnic sheds at Itogon are pegged at Php 200.00. If you have the budget and if you can afford the resorts at Asin, then by all means, go for Asin hot spring resorts. But, if you’re budget conscious but still want to have some fun and relax in a hot spring then Itogon it is for you. OUR RECOMMENDATION Our/my recommendation is based on our experience and does not necessarily, in any way, try to influence your own choice and decision. We just say what we saw and experience. We’ve been to two of these resorts, namely Riverview Waterpark and Itogon Hot Spring Resorts. The thing that I love about Riverview is that they have a live band entertaining the guests and the vocalist is a PWD or person with disability. Now that is one way to help those who really deserved to be helped. Aside from that, they have so many pools of all sizes and shapes and their convenience store offers everything you need although a bit pricey. They have rooms if you want to stay a bit longer or plan to have an overnight on the resort. Another attraction of this resort is their animal sanctuary. The view going to the resort is quite splendid. The only downside that I observed about the place is that it can become quite pretty crowded during holidays and weekends. I mean, the resort is fully packed during these days and the word fun and enjoyment can be quite the opposite. Hygiene can also be one issue if the place’s crowded especially on the pool if you know what I mean. I’d say that if you want to go these resort, try to at least schedule it or plan it during the weekdays or regular days and I guarantee you that the resort will be yours, and you’re alone. Itogon Hot Spring Resorts, on the other hand, is cheaper compared with Riverview. Talking about having fun but without spending too much. Same amenities but fewer pools and other attractions. They have stores but it’s not complete so I say bring with you all the necessary things that you need before going to the resort as the tendency you might not find in their stores the things that you wanted to buy. I cannot make reviews on other resorts mentioned here as we haven’t been there yet but I’ve heard and read pretty impressive reviews from others who have already experienced going there. Whether you choose resorts at Asin or Itogon, what matters is that you enjoy the benefits of these resorts especially the sulfuric water that these resorts have in their pools. Believe me, the waters have healing and soothing effects and it’s good for people with minor skin problems. Enjoy the highland summer.

Thank you for your comment Ma'am Beth. But as what we always tell our dear readers that we are in no way connected with these hot spring resorts. Please forward your concern to each one of them. I think they have their contact details in their Facebook accounts.

Swimming Pool is the best place to have a party with your family and friends. It's the best place to spend vacations. I always have a weekend party with my friends in the Swimming pool.
